Femto LASIK stands for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis and is a procedure that permanently changes the shape of the cornea, the clear covering of the front of the eye, using an excimer laser. The goal of LASIK surgery is to reduce a person’s dependency on glasses and contacts and correct common problems such as farsightedness, nearsightedness and astigmatism.

LASEK, PRK, TransPRK: These 3 techniques are basically variations of the same technique. Here femto laser is not used to create a flap, instead a thinner layer is removed manually or by excimer laser. We prefer this technique only if the patient is not suitable for Femtolasik because it takes longer for the vision to fully recover.

The Femto LASIK procedure begins with a routine eye examination and corneal topography. Eye drops are used to anesthetize the eye for comfort. The Surgical Process:

Suitability for Femto LASIK:

– You should be at least 18 years old with stable eye prescriptions.
– Pregnancy or nursing may affect eye measurements, so it’s advised to wait for three months after breastfeeding to undergo the procedure.

– Good general health is essential, and the surgeon may advise against LASIK for patients with specific medical conditions.
– For nearsightedness, prescriptions up to -8 to -9; for long-sightedness, up to +3 to +4; and for astigmatism, up to -6D may be considered suitable for Femto LASIK.
